Getting started with Music Planner
Create your account, set up a space for your band, add your first songs and setlist, and invite the rest of the band.
Last updated September 28, 2026
Music Planner is built around spaces. A space is one band or team: its songs, setlists, files and people live there together. Most people belong to one space, but you can join several if you play in more than one band.
This guide takes you from a blank account to a space with songs, a setlist and your bandmates in it.
1. Create your account
- Go to musicplanner.app/register.
- Enter your Name, Email and a Password of at least 8 characters, then click Create account. You can also click Continue with Google instead.
You are signed in straight away. There is no verification email to wait for.
If a bandmate sent you an invitation link, open that link now. It will ask you to sign in or register, and then bring you back to the invitation so you can accept it. If that is you, you can skip the next section.
2. Create a space or join one
The first time you open the app you will see the welcome screen with two choices:
- Join a Space: if someone gave you an invitation code, type it in the box and click Join. Codes look like XXXX-XXXX.
- Create a Space: if you are setting the band up yourself.
To create a space:
- Click Create a Space.
- Give it a Space Name. Use the band's name so it is obvious in the space switcher later. A picture and a one-line description are optional, and both can be changed later in Space settings.
- Under Choose a Plan, pick Starter (free), Gig or Stage. Starter needs no card. Gig and Stage take you to checkout first.
- Click Create Space.
The plan belongs to the space, not to you. Everyone you invite gets the same features and shares the same limits, and they never need to pay anything themselves.
Each account can own one free space. To create a second one, upgrade or delete the existing free space. Plans can be changed later from Space settings under Subscription.
3. Find your way around
The sidebar has three sections:
- Songs: your library. Every song has its audio, stems, chord chart and files.
- Setlists: the gigs and rehearsals you are planning, split into Upcoming and Past.
- People: who is in the space, and where you invite others.
Click the space name at the top of the sidebar to switch between spaces, open Space settings or create another space.
4. Add your first songs
- Open Songs and click Upload in the top right.
- Drag audio files onto the drop zone, or click Select files. You can drop several at once. The song name is taken from the file name and you can change it later.
- No recording yet? Click Create manually instead. Search for the song by name to fill in the details, or type the Name, Artist, Original key and Original bpm yourself.
Songs added through the search box may arrive with a chord chart already filled in. See Write a chord chart for what to do with it, and Split a song into stems for practice tracks.
5. Build a setlist
- Open Setlists and click Add setlist.
- Fill in the Name, Date, Time and Location, then save.
- On the Plan tab, click Add block to add songs, sections, items and breaks in the order they happen. This is the running order the band sees.
Setlists dated in the future show under Upcoming. Once the date passes they move to Past automatically.
6. Invite the band
- Open People and click Invite.
- Either click Copy link and paste the invitation link into your band chat, or type an address under Invite by email and click Send.
Invitation links expire after six days. Send a fresh one from the same dialog if someone misses it. Emailed invitations show in the People list with a Pending invitation badge until they are accepted, and you can resend or revoke them from the row menu.
New members can add songs and invite others by default, but not edit setlists. To change what members can do, see Who can see and edit what.
Plan limits at a glance
- Starter: 10 members, 30 songs, 25 stem splits a month.
- Gig: 30 members, 250 songs, 150 stem splits a month, Live mode.
- Stage: 100 members, 1,000 songs, 500 stem splits a month, Live mode.
