Split a song into stems
Turn any recording into separate vocals, guitar, bass, drums and piano tracks, plus a metronome, and download them as a zip.

A stem is one instrument pulled out of a full mix. Once a song is split, every band member can mute their own part and play along with the rest, or solo it to hear exactly what is going on.
Before you start
The song needs audio. Upload a recording first if you created the song manually. See Upload songs.
You need the Manage songs permission. Members have it by default. If you do not see the button, ask the space owner.
Splits are counted per space per month. Starter spaces get 25, Gig 150 and Stage 500. The count resets at the start of each calendar month. Stems you already made stay available after the limit is reached.
Split the tracks
- On the song page, click Split tracks in the header.
- Tick the stems you want: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano and Metronome. Stems the song already has are ticked for you.
- Click Split. The button shows how many stems you picked.
One click counts as one split against your monthly allowance, however many stems you tick. So pick everything you might want in one go rather than coming back for more later.
Each new stem appears as a row under the song with a Processing label. It is greyed out until it is ready, which usually takes a minute or two depending on the length of the song. You can leave the page and come back.
Once the stems are ready, see Practise with the player for muting, soloing, looping and slowing them down.
Download the stems
- Open the song's menu (the three lines in the header) and click Export tracks.
- A zip named after the song downloads, with one file per finished stem.
Troubleshooting
- Split tracks is greyed out: the song has no audio yet. Upload a recording on the Song tab.
- Stem split limit reached for this month: you have used the space's monthly allowance. The message tells you when it resets. Upgrading the space in Space settings raises the limit immediately.
- A stem sounds muddy: the split can only be as clean as the recording. Try a higher quality file of the same song.
