Practise with the player: loop, mute, transpose and slow down

Loop a tricky section, mute or solo stems, change the key and slow the song down without changing pitch, all from the song page.

Last updated September 28, 2026

The player on every song page is built for practising, not just listening. Everything here works on any uploaded recording; the stem rows only appear once a song has been split.

Loop a section

  • Set the loop: drag across any waveform, or press I at the start and O at the end while the song plays. The loop starts playing straight away.
  • Adjust it: drag either edge of the loop on the progress bar. The shortest loop is a quarter of a second.
  • Turn it on and off: press L, or click the loop button. Shift+L clears it.

Mute and solo stems

If the song has been split (see Split a song into stems), every stem has its own row:

  • M: mutes that stem. Mute your own instrument to play along with the rest of the band.
  • S: solos it. Only one stem can be soloed at a time, so clicking S on another stem moves the solo.
  • Volume slider: balances the mix, for example to bring the bass up so you can hear the line.

The Metronome stem starts muted. Turn it on when you want a click alongside the recording.

Change the key

Click the key button (for example D (+2)) to transpose up to 12 semitones either way without changing the speed. Use flats switches the spelling, and Reset puts it back. Inside a setlist the transpose is saved on the setlist itself, so the whole band sees the gig key.

Slow it down

Click the BPM button and set a new tempo between 20 and 300. The pitch stays the same. Reset returns to the original tempo. Tempo is only available on the song page, not inside a setlist, and only when the song has a tempo.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Space: play and pause.
  • Left and right arrows: skip back and forward five seconds.
  • I and O: set the loop start and end.
  • L and Shift+L: toggle and clear the loop.

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text field.

What is remembered

Your loop, tempo, key and each stem's mute and volume are saved for that song on this device. They do not follow you to another device or affect anyone else in the band.

Troubleshooting

  • Could not load audio tracks: the player lost its connection. Click Retry, or reload the page.
  • No BPM button: the song has no tempo yet. Set one in Edit song.
