Paste a chart as ChordPro
Already have a chart as text? Paste it into the source view using ChordPro's square-bracket chords instead of retyping it.
Last updated October 4, 2026
Charts are stored as ChordPro, the plain-text format most chord sites and apps can export. If you already have a chart as text, pasting it is faster than rebuilding it in the block editor.
Open the source view
- Open the song's Chords tab and click the pencil to edit.
- Click Show source in the editor's footer.
- Paste your text. It turns into blocks as you type, and you can keep editing either way.
- Click Save.
The format
Chords go in square brackets inside the lyric, right before the syllable they land on. A section header is a comment directive:
{comment: Chorus}
[G]Amazing [G7]grace, how [C]sweet the [G]sound
- Instrumental lines: chords separated by spaces, with | for bar lines.
- Optional chords: keep the brackets outside the parentheses, like [(Am)].
- Metadata: {title:}, {artist:}, {key:} and {capo:} are understood. A capo line shows as a badge in the chart header.
Pitfalls
- Tabs: paste plain text only. Tab characters throw the chord positions off.
- Chords too close together: leave at least one character between two chords. Two chords placed right on top of each other are read as one.
- Other directives: start_of_chorus and similar directives are kept but not shown as sections. Use a comment line for the header instead.
